The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the city government here broke ground for the Iloilo Residences rental housing project on Wednesday afternoon.

The project, to be funded from the escrow funds derived from the mandatory deposits of real estate developers, will be located in a city-owned property in Barangay Sambag, Jaro District.

The ceremony was led by DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, Undersecretary Eduardo Robles Jr., National Housing Authority Regional Manager Rizalino Cabahug, Mayor Raisa Treñas, Councilor Mandrie Malabor, and Iloilo City Local Housing Office head Peter Millare.

Robles, in his message, said the occasion paves the way for safe, decent, and dignified housing for Ilonggos.

“Sa ilalim ng direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., at pamumuno ni Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, ang Expanded Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino o Expanded 4PH Program, ay may simpleng layunin (Under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the leadership of Secretary Aliling, the Expanded 4PH Program has a simple goal): to give every Filipino family a home they can truly call their own. More than concrete, roof, and walls, these homes are foundations for dignified lives – building stronger families and communities,” he said.

Treñas said the housing project reflects the strong partnerships with the national government agencies and the private sector to deliver real, meaningful benefits to communities.

“We are truly grateful to DHSUD for this project, funded through their escrow funds, which come from the mandatory deposits of real estate developers complying with the Balanced Housing Development Program. These funds are used to implement more socialized housing projects that directly benefit our communities,” she said.

The project consists of two seven-story residential buildings, each having 181 residential units – or a total of 362 housing units once completed.

All housing units are designed with a floor area of 27 square meters, ensuring practical and comfortable living spaces.

Each building shall be provided with an elevator to ensure efficient accessibility for residents.

The project is set to open in 2027 with a proposed rental rate of PHP850 per month. (PNA)
