A heartfelt Facebook post has gone viral after a grateful parent shared how AirAsia staff acted swiftly and compassionately during a medical emergency involving her 1-year-old daughter aboard Flight AK115 from Guangzhou to Kuala Lumpur on July 4.

According to the passenger, her infant daughter Natashya Sofea, aged 1 year and 7 months, began showing signs of distress mid-flight. Initially asleep after takeoff, the toddler awoke but soon turned pale and lethargic, appearing to have difficulty breathing. The mother described the terrifying moments when her daughter became unresponsive, prompting an urgent call for assistance.

The cabin crew immediately responded with oxygen support and comforted the family while calling for any available medical professionals onboard. Fortunately, a doctor on the flight quickly came forward to assess the situation.

The flight crew then contacted the cockpit, and Captain Sangeran Surendran, together with First Officer Muhammad Syafiq bin Nor’en, promptly decided to divert the flight to the nearest airport, which was in Ho Chi Minh City, for immediate medical attention. During the 30-minute emergency descent, cabin crew members continuously monitored the child’s condition, massaging her limbs and checking her pulse.

Upon landing, a medical team was already waiting on the tarmac. The child, accompanied by her parents, was rushed to a hospital where she underwent rapid diagnostics including an ECG, echocardiogram, and X-ray—all completed within an hour. The family was assisted throughout the ordeal by AirAsia Ho Chi Minh ground staff member Mr. Alan Vuu, whom the mother described as “incredible from A to Z.”

AirAsia also arranged a complimentary return flight to Kuala Lumpur for the family and ensured that the entire airport process ran smoothly.

The Facebook post, addressed to Hi Fly AirAsia and the AirAsia Rewards Team, commended the following individuals for their professionalism and compassion:

SFO Muhammad Syafiq bin Nor’en

SCC Mohd Ridzwan Ong

CC Stephenie Unyang Dungo

CC Nurul Nasuha Binti Mohd Maznan

CC Amirul Ariffin Bin Junaidi

“Please reward your staff above as they already did a very good job during this situation,” the mother wrote, praising their calm response and swift coordination under pressure.
