The Department of Labor and Employment in Davao Region (DOLE-11), in partnership with other government agencies, will conduct three major activities to honor Filipino workers on May 1 for the 121st Labor Day celebration.

In an interview Thursday, DA-11 Kadiwa focal person Juvy Pregon said the activities include the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa, the awarding of government assistance to workers, and the conduct of job fairs.

DA-11 will establish Kadiwa corners to host the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa with the Department of Agriculture-Davao Region (DA-11) the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Association of Labor Unions (ALU), and the city’s Public Employment and Services Office (PESO), Pregon said.

Kadiwa booths will also be set-up along Rizal Park and Roxas Avenue in this city to showcase the products of some 100 beneficiaries of the DA, DTI and DOLE.

“We will display all agri-products produced by our local farmers, and they will be sold at farm gate prices,” Pregon added.

This year’s theme, “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino,” focuses on the primary programs and services of the agencies to support the Filipino workforce.

Another major activity is the awarding of financial assistance amounting to PHP18 million for more than 2,500 beneficiaries in the region under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) and Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

The highlight of the celebration is the conduct of the annual job fair at SM City Davao with 1,800 job vacancies being offered by 38 local employers as of April 24.

In a statement Thursday, DOLE-11 said they aim to record a high number of hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) jobseekers that includes sales consultants, tellers, machine operators, and marketing professionals.

DOLE-11 Director Randolf Pensoy, meanwhile, encouraged jobseekers to remain active by researching jobs online and studying job trends.

“We hope to generate a large number of hired jobseekers since Davao Region’s economy is gradually getting back on its feet,” he said. (PNA)
