The Department of Health (DOH) has opened another Super Health Center (SHC) in Pangasinan, this time in Alcala town, providing timely and accessible primary care to the residents and neighboring towns.

“Pangasinan has the biggest population in all the provinces in the Ilocos Region and most of these residents are remotely located in communities that are far from hospitals,” DOH Ilocos Region director Paula Paz Sydiongco said in a statement Tuesday.

She said the center “will serve as the first responder to those in need of healthcare services.”

The SHC will also refer patients who are in need of higher medical assistance “so that their families need not worry especially during emergencies,” Sydiongco said.

Prior to the one in Alcala, the DOH Ilocos Region has opened two SHCs in the towns of Bani and Agno.

The SHC in Alcala was funded under the 2025 General Appropriations Act and constructed through the DOH-Health Facility Enhancement Program with an allocation of PHP10 million for the building and another PHP2 million for equipment.

“We are also providing equipment to SHCs including Barangay Health Station packages to the communities, which include a variety of medical tools to complement the health services they provide in the facility,” Sydiongco added. (PNA)
