The province of Antique has prepared PHP300,000 worth of family food packs aside from the rice and drinking water for families who might be displaced due to Super Typhoon Mawar.
Jason Alagos, a Social Worker and in-charge of the Disaster Response under the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, said in an interview Friday that they have already prepared family food packs composed of noodles, canned goods, coffee, chocolate.
Aside from the food packs, there are 220 sacks of rice and 120 bottles of drinking water that are also ready for distribution.
The Quick Response Team of the PSWDO has also been activated and is ready for any eventuality during the weather disturbance.
In a related development, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor said the province has already made necessary preparations in anticipation of Mawar.
“We also have relief goods and assets prepared in case the situation worsens due to the typhoon,” Defensor said during a press conference on Friday.
He, however, was not able to provide the number of the family food packs readied by the provincial government.
Defensor, at the same time, said they are closely monitoring a bailey bridge in Barangay Oyungan in Miag-ao town, that had been temporarily put up after the permanent bridge was destroyed during Typhoon Paeng last year.
The bridge is important for commuters going to the neighboring province of Antique with Miag-ao the second municipality towards the boundary of Iloilo and Antique.
He said they are monitoring the bridge, especially if there would be heavy rainfall that could trigger a landslide or flashflood caused by the typhoon.(PNA)
