More housing projects will rise soon for Manila’s informal settlers.
Among the housing projects set to be built by the city government is Phase 2 of the Basecommunity which will also have its own hospital.
Phase 1 began construction in December 2020 and was turned over to beneficiaries on July 5.
It is composed of 229 two-story units, each with 42 square meters of living space.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso visited residents and officials of Barangay 649 Zone 68 and assured the city’s commitment to give dignity to informal settlers by providing them with decent houses.
He emphasized that residents must take care of their communities and houses in return.
The city government’s ongoing housing projects are Tondominium 1 and 2, the 15-story Binondominium, and the San Lazaro Residences and Pedro Gil Residences that broke ground last month.
Soon, the city government will commence work at the San Sebastian Residences.
San Sebastian, San Lazaro Residences, and Pedro Gil Residences will be 20-story towers with 300 units each and health center on the ground floor.
San Lazaro Residences will also have a public laboratory.
“Kakambal ng pabahay ay ang disiplina na dapat hinuhubog din sa dating mga informal settler families para buo ang pagbabalik ng kanilang dignidad bilang mga tao. Kaya ‘yung disiplina itinuturo sa tao para umangat din yung pananaw ng tao. Hindi komo mahirap tayo warde warde na (The housing should go hand in hand with the discipline that we should instill among our informal settler families so they attain their dignity. We should teach them discipline so their vision also improves. We can’t be careless just because we are poor),” Domagoso told residents during the dialogue shared on social media. (PNA)
