Christmas is only a few weeks away, and it’s time to put an end to the Halloween season, so we’ve compiled a list of five of the most-watched and award-winning short horror flicks to see before the new year arrives. These flicks may last 10 to 30 minutes, but they will provide you with nerve-wracking, nightmarish, eerie moments, and goosebumps.

1. Other Side of The Box

An unsettling and terrifying 15-minute horror film about a young couple who receives a mystery delivery from an old acquaintance on a cold winter night. When they opened the package, something went out and things became much more intense.

Starring Nick Tag as Ben, the husband; Teagan Rose as Rachel, the wife; Josh Schell as Shawn, old friend; and Tyler Pochop as a man in the box.

The Other Side of The Box bagged a total of six awards namely SXSW Grand Jury Award Winner (Midnight Short) 2019, SCAD Best Supernatural Short Winner 2018, Sunscreen Film Festival Best Thriller 2019, Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival Audience Choice Award 2019, The Short Awards Best Horror 2021, and Vimeo Staff Pick.

2. Stucco

The 17-minute twisted psychological horror short film presents guilt, depression, and the effect of isolation.

It is a story set about a woman, named J, who is trying and failing to move forward from her past relationship. One day, J is hanging a piece of art in her new home. Out of curiosity, she knocked a part in the hollow wall and find it suspicious, revealing what might be in another room. Her mind races and unravels as she wonders what could be on the other side, a tongue.

The main characters are played by Janina Gavankar as J, Michael Ealy as X, Emmy Raver Lampman as herself, and Debra Messin as a counselor.

Stucco received six best awards such as Best Horror Short Film & Best FX Women in Horror Film Festival 2020, Non-Broadcast Production – Sound Design Telly Awards 2020, Midnight Short Special Jury Award (SXSW Film Festival), and Best Female Filmmaker in Cordillera International Film Festival.

3. The Dollmaker

Small miracles come with big consequences.

An unsettling 9-minutes horror film talks about a young couple, Rick and Jenna, who fall into desperation and heartbreak after losing their four-year-old son, Tim. Reaching their last darkest hope, they contact The Dollmaker, an unnerving character who specializes in making dolls of deceased loved ones. And the couple found themselves trapped in a never-ending nightmare.

The Dollmaker won dozen film awards namely Independent Short – Fantasy/Horror in WorldFest Houston, Film of the month & Best Duo in Top Shorts Film Festival, Horror/Suspense in San Diego Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, Best of the Fest in Panic Fest, Jury Award Best Special FX, Crypticon Seattle Horror Film Festival 2018 Best Short Film, Freak Show Horror Film Festival 2018 Best Florida Short, Knoxville Horror Film Fest 2017 Best Short Film & Best Scenario and Austin Revolution Film Festival 2018 Best Horror Short.

4. Makr

A 13- minute story about Makr, a con-artist who lost his faith in Al-Ghaib (God) after a tragedy and become a fake exorcist. He eventually visits the home of a man who thinks his wife is possessed by a Djinn, only to find out that things are not as they seem.

Makr won three international awards from Short. Sweet. Film Fest. 2020 for Best International Film Award, Best Film and Director in Short to the Point International Film Festival 2019.

5. La Sirena

A 23-minute short horror and psychosexual film about Mia, a woman in a small fishing village, who has an affair with a married fisherman. When a mysterious naked woman with a hook lodged in her ribcage, Mia is forced to face her inner monster and avenge her broken heart.

La Sirena is granted a total of four awards for Best Editing in United International Film Festival, Best Director Short in Nightmares Film Festival, Emerging Cinematographer Award, and 2 Grand Jury Award for Short Film.
