The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) formally launched its 2026 tax campaign in Mindanao on Friday here, urging taxpayers to comply with their obligations under the theme, “Mahusay na Serbisyo, Katumbas ng Buwis Mo.”

The campaign, which highlights the link between efficient public service and tax compliance, gathered officials and representatives from the revenue regions across Mindanao, including Zamboanga and Tawi-Tawi, Northern Mindanao, Caraga Region, South Central Mindanao and Davao Region.

BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza led the opening program, joined by deputy commissioners and regional directors, underscoring the bureau’s commitment to strengthening taxpayer engagement and improving service delivery across the regions.

“Patuloy ang pag-angat ng Mindanao at kailangan sabayan natin ang bilis ng paglago nito. Mas maayos na serbisyo, mas malinaw na proseso, mas mabilis na tugon sa ating mga taxpayers (Mindanao continues to rise, and we must keep pace with its rapid growth. Better service, clearer process and faster response for our taxpayers),” Mendoza said in his message.

He added that accelerating growth across Mindanao’s different regions is underway, and that this growth includes new entrepreneurs, not only future taxpayers but also those just starting out and still finding their way through the tax process.

The BIR chief noted that the bureau is strengthening its taxpayer education, including a partnership with TikTok Philippines to launch intensive educational videos.

The 2026 tax campaign, Mendoza noted, follows the principle of strengthening tax compliance today while building a more confident taxpayer for the future.

Mendoza further noted the need to confront on-the-ground realities and challenges, such as internet connectivity, especially in remote districts.

“If our direction is full digital transformation, then connectivity must be addressed seriously,” he said.

At the national level, the BIR is partnering with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to enhance internet access, making it easier for taxpayers to access BIR services, he added.

He clarified that the partnership with the DILG involved introducing and making the BIR e-services available through the e-BOSS (the Electronic Business One Stop Shop) to the local government units (LGUs).

Mendoza also encouraged the revenue regions in Mindanao to work closely with the LGUs to expand access and reach more taxpayers.

Additionally, he acknowledged the presence of governors and mayors from various regions of Mindanao who attended the opening of the 2026 tax campaign.

“Your presence affirms our strong cooperation in advancing tax compliance in your regions. We count on your continued support to help us reach more taxpayers and strengthen compliance at the local level,” Mendoza said. (PNA)
