The Cebu City Health Department (CCHD) readied fun and child-centered ambiance in inoculating children aged 5 to 11 against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Mayor Michael Rama and CCHD head Dr. Jeffrey Ibones on Wednesday led the kick-off of the city’s version of the “Resbakuna Kids” inoculation program at the well-decorated basketball court of the Abellana National School.

In his speech, Rama invited parents to allow their children eligible for inoculation to avail of the specially-prepared Pfizer vaccine so they could be afforded protection against the virus.

As of 3:30 p.m., around 240 children have received the vaccine, based on the registration list.

Before they were jabbed, they underwent medical check ups by pediatricians after verification of their identities through their parents.

Ibones noted the children’s cheerful mood at the balloon-filled inoculation site. The kids were also treated to cartoon movies and anime entertainment.

“We have two sites for the kids 5 to 11 years old. One in Abellana and the other is in Ayala Center-Cebu. There are around 8,000 children of this age who have registered for vaccination,” he told the Philippine News Agency in a text message.

Janet Repollo, a pharmacist who volunteered at the Abella site, said the children who received their Covid-19 jabs will go back for their second dose after 21 days. (PNA)
