Moises Padilla, one of the worst hit localities during Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) in Negros Occidental in November last year, is implementing a PHP30-million recovery program, of which PHP20 million is being funded by the Office of the President (OP).

In a statement on Monday, the municipal government said the use of the funds for social assistance and infrastructure programs was approved by the Municipal Development Council and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Jan. 22.

“Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo and Vice Mayor Felix Mathias Segundo Yulo III continue to coordinate with the province and the national government to ensure that the assistance will reach the residents who need it most,” it added.

Of the PHP20 million, the municipal government received PHP10 million directly from the OP, while the other PHP10 million was received through the provincial government.

The remaining PHP10 million includes PHP9.6 million for the swine upgrading program and irrigation project in Barangay Montilla funded by the local government unit and PHP400,000, an amount donated by Kabankalan City, for relocation site development.

Moises Padilla was among the typhoon-hit LGUs in Negros Occidental visited by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Nov. 15, 2025.

The President inspected Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia Sr. National High School in Barangay 1, where most of the classrooms were submerged by floods.

In line with the presidential visit, the national government then released an initial PHP95 million assistance to Negros Occidental and the six worst-affected LGUs.

These included PHP50 million for the provincial government, PHP10 million each for La Carlota City and the municipalities of La Castellana and Moises Padilla, as well as PHP5 million each for Binalbagan, Hinigaran and Isabela. (PNA)
