The Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) bared Thursday that 92,726 women farmers are already registered under the agency’s Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture, based on data provided on March 12.

In time with the celebration of Women’s Month, DA-13 recognized the role of women farmers in the development of their respective communities.

“The number of women farmers registered at the RSBSA signifies their active role in the management, care, and strengthening of agriculture in the region,” DA-13 said in its report..

It added that most of these women are part of associations that received interventions through livelihood programs and projects.

By province, registered women farmers number 19,145 in Agusan del Norte, 29,562 in Agusan del Sur, 15,830 in Surigao del Norte, 22,219 in Surigao del Sur, and 5,970 in Dinagat Islands.

“At present, there are 469,892 farmers and fisherfolk (both men and women) registered under the RSBSA,” DA-13 said.

Among the successful women’s groups supported by DA-13 is the Malipayon ug Maugwagong mag-uuma sa Mahayahay in Barangay Mahayahay, Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

The group, composed of women farmers all registered under RSBSA, received intervention through the agency’s Special Area for Agricultural Development program in the form of 192 heads of ready-to-lay chicken, 110 bags of feed, and prefabricated cages. In 2025, the group started marketing eggs in Siargao Island and earned around PHP550,702 in gross sales.

DA-13 continues to call on women farmers in the region to register with RSBSA at their respective municipal, city, or provincial agriculture offices. (PNA)
