The city government will bring performers to all districts for the 87th Araw ng Dabaw (Davao Day) celebration, which will start on March 1.

Jennifer Romero, officer-in-charge of the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), said activities lined up for the opening ceremony are the Misa Pasalamat (thanksgiving Mass), Pasiugdang Pagsaulog (grand celebration) and Konsierto Dabawenyo (concert).

“Celebrity performers will be present during the Konsierto. We have prepared a new activity that will bring the Araw ng Dabaw to the three districts in the city,” Romero said in an interview Tuesday, referring to the “Kalingawan sa Distrito,” a new addition to the official activities.

“We will bring performers, local performers from Davao, to the districts so that Dabawenyos in the area may take part in the celebration since we know that it isn’t always convenient for everyone to come to downtown Davao to take part in the activities for the Araw ng Dabaw,” she added.

The CTOO also revived the “Dabawenyo Ako (I’m a Davaoeño)” that will run from March 4 to 15, a school-based activity that intends to inform children of the history of Davao.

Following the activity is a Davao Heritage Walk for all on March 15 and 16.

The most-awaited Mutya ng Dabaw pageant coronation will be on March 15, following the talent competition on March 5 and preliminary competition on March 9.

The highlight of the event, the Parada Dabawenyo (grand parade), will be on March 17.

“The parade would follow the same route as the previous celebration, albeit shorter,” Romero said.

On parade day, there will also be a variety show and street party (Hugyaw Dabaw) at San Pedro Square. (PNA)
