The Davao de Oro provincial government reaffirmed on Tuesday its commitment to respect and empower women in the province.

The province is currently celebrating National Women’s Month with activities that recognize and emphasize the importance of women.

In a statement, Davao de Oro Gender and Development (GAD) Center head Kris Caballero noted that, in addition to programs for women empowerment, women in the province are valued, respected, and supported.

“We are always taking the stand in respecting the rights and dignity of women,” she said.

She also acknowledged the efforts and contributions of women in reaching the progress that the province enjoys today.

“Let us honor the women who stood by their families amidst the challenges,” Caballero said.

As part of the celebration, the provincial government organized various initiatives that promote awareness of women’s rights, gender equality, and empowerment.

Among the activities conducted were employees wearing purple shirts every Wednesday, providing seedlings to women’s groups to support livelihoods, and offering free healthcare services.

Women’s groups also displayed their energy and creativity in the Zumba novelty dance competition, one of the highlights of the 19th Bulawan Festival.

The month-long celebration is part of the nationwide observance led by the Philippine Commission on Women, which aims to boost awareness and appreciation of women’s role and value in nation-building. (PNA)
