The Davao Oriental Provincial Development Council (PDC) endorsed several big-ticket projects to the Regional Development Council in Region 11 (RDC-11).
In a statement on Tuesday, PDC said among the endorsed projects are the Mati City Development Council’s request to the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) for funds to be used on its fish port project, as well as additional PHP500 million for road projects to connect Barangays Langka, Luban, and Cabuaya to Barangay Macambol.
Also endorsed are funding requests for the procurement of eleven units of commercial carrier fishing vessels amounting to PHP65 million to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR); funding for priority infrastructure projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Second Engineering District; and requests for additional funding for the construction of the Davao Oriental Sports Complex, Davao Oriental Tourism Complex, and Lupon gymnasium.
Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, PDC chairperson, noted that while the projects have already been deliberated at the RDC-11, it needed a proper endorsement from the provincial body.
“(Department of Budget) Secretary Wendel Avisado has made it clear that all project proposals, including projects passing through the congressional funds, should have proper endorsement and review by the RDC,” Dayanghirang said.
Dayanghirang said additional funding of PHP20 million from the Office of the President (OP) will be allocated for each of the 10 identified priority barangays declared as insurgency-cleared by the security sector.
He said he has tasked the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) vice-chairman Ednar Dayanghirang to assist the barangays in the preparation of the project proposals.
“This is timely because we already required the barangays to activate their respective Barangay Development Councils,” the governor said.
The projects endorsed by the PDC to the RDC 11 will then be referred to the concerned national government agencies. (PNA)
