The Department of Education (DepEd) city schools division here is targeting to use a newly-acquired site for its two elementary schools by July in time for the national learning camp.

“We will have a meeting next week for an inventory and to come up with a development plan on who is going to occupy which area at the new site” for the City Central Elementary School and the Calindagan Elementary School, Juditha Mapue, chief of the curriculum implementation department of the City Schools Division, said on Friday.

The former Catherina Cittadini – St. Louis School (CC-SLS) was formally turned over from the city government to the DepEd on Thursday afternoon.

Mapue said the national learning camp, from July 1 to 19, would offer remedial classes for students who have not reached the proficiency level and serve as an enrichment venue for those with high grades.

These will be offered at all schools, including senior high, she added.

For the elementary level, covered are Grades 1 to 3 with focus on reading and numeracy.

Grades 7 to 10 will focus on English, Science, and Math.

This is voluntary for learners, with their parents’ consent, and teachers, who will be given a PHP250-a-day meal allowance and service credits for 15 days.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo led city officials in turning over a symbolic key to Salustiano Jimenez, director of DepEd 7 (Central Visayas), and other DepEd officials here.

Mapue said the two public elementary schools would not be merged and would only be co-located at the new site in Barangay Calindagan.

The 1.8-hectare Cittadini property has more than a dozen buildings with standard-sized classrooms, a gymnasium, laboratories, cafeterias, a chapel, a road network with adequate parking space, a playground, a grotto, and other structures. (PNA)
