Around 16,035 Grades 7 and 8 learners from Antique are joining the National Learning Camp (NLC) of the Department of Education (DepEd) aimed at addressing learning losses due to the health pandemic.

The NLC is part of the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP) mentioned by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, according to DepEd Schools Division of Antique Curriculum Implementation Division chief Edward Baña.

“The NLC intends to address the learning losses experienced by the Grade 7 and 8 learners who have volunteered to sign up,” Baña, also the program’s focal person, said in an interview on Tuesday.

The July 26 to Aug. 25 activity will be conducted in 64 secondary and integrated schools in Antique and will focus on English, Mathematics and Science.

It has three camps, including intervention and consolidation, which will run for five weeks each, and enhancement for three weeks.

The intervention camp will cater to learners needing remedial classes, consolidation for those needing mastery and enhancement for the advanced learning application in the three subject areas.

“The 711 teachers who will be handling the subjects underwent training for capacity-building from DepEd Antique educational supervisors so they would be ready to handle the classes starting tomorrow (Wednesday),” Baña said.

Teachers will use various teaching strategies to make the NLC camp-like and fun-filled for the learners.

He also thanked the parents for allowing their children to join the NLC as DepEd is doing everything to improve their learning skills.
