The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned over on Wednesday PHP41.89 million worth of new isolation facilities to the municipal government of Mariveles, Bataan in support of the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The new facilities using three container vans are located in Barangay Alasasin, Mariveles.

The project was implemented by the DPWH Bataan 2nd District Engineering Office.

Ulysses Llado, head of the office, said the project was aimed at providing more quarantine facilities to Mariveles residents and will serve as one of the main evacuation areas during calamities and other health-related emergencies.

Three clusters of 20-footer container vans were customized into 16-units air-conditioned emergency health facilities.

Each cluster is equipped with comfort rooms, male and female quarters for frontline health personnel, a nurses’ station, and an electrical room.

“The facility was also provided with a ramp to serve PWDs (persons with disability, a centralized hallway passage, a portable generator set, and a single-phase electrical power distribution system per health facility cluster,” Llado said in a statement.

Meanwhile, DPWH-Central Luzon director Roseller Tolentino said all construction activities in the region are strictly monitored especially those in the district offices, to ensure that no infrastructure projects are left behind in schedule.

“This is our response to the crisis that has lingered in the country for a year now – we shall take each day as a regular working day but with insurmountable efforts to live up to the timetable of DPWH Secretary Mark Villar and the national government,” Tolentino said.

As of Feb. 21, Mariveles has recorded a total of 1,402 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 1,369 recoveries, nine active cases, and 24 deaths. (PNA)
