At least 500 low-income residents in Barangay Miranda in this island city benefited from the cash distribution of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) on Friday.

The beneficiaries received PHP3,000 each from the financial aid sourced through the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

The AICS forms part of the DSWD’s protective services for the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals and technical assistance to local government units and other partners.

The beneficiaries include marginalized workers who were affected by the impact of the pandemic.

Apart from the DSWD-11 financial assistance, Senator Christopher Lawrence Go also distributed various supplies to the beneficiaries, such as bicycles, volleyballs and basketballs, crutches, shoes, mobile tablets, and food and grocery packs.

Go also attended the foundation day of Barangay Tambo and inspected the three projects in the barangay that are funded by his office.

In his speech, he urged residents who have illnesses to seek help from the government and avail of the services offered by the Malasakit Center.

“We also have the Super Health Centers that would cater to your immediate health needs. We are establishing it closer to you so that you will no longer travel to seek medical treatment,” Go said.

A beneficiary, Doreen Joy Cawate, of Barangay Miranda, said the financial assistance is a big help to her family considering that she is jobless at the moment.

“We will use it to buy food especially milk for my children,” she said. (PNA)
