The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 5 (Bicol) distributed nearly 10,000 family food packs to two provinces in the region on Wednesday.
DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio said the food packs were provided to assist families reeling from the effects of the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Dante.
The affected areas include Oas and Polangui in Albay, as well as five towns in Camarines Norte.
“This initiative is part of our rapid response to meet the needs of those affected, fulfilling our mandate to ensure that every family impacted by the calamity receives immediate assistance,” he said.
Oas received 1,885 food packs, Polangui (3,000), Labo (1,728), Paracale (1,029), Santa Elena (742), Jose Panganiban (695), and Capalonga (806).
Laurio also conducted an on-site assessment of the rivers near Bato, Camarines Sur and the landslide areas in Polangui, Albay.
He checked on the status of affected fisherfolk to evaluate their immediate needs, particularly as disasters severely impact their livelihood. (PNA)
