The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13) has launched the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP), a flagship initiative of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. aimed at addressing foundational literacy gaps among struggling learners.

The program, which began Tuesday and will run until Friday, targets barangay captains, school heads, parents, and other stakeholders in Butuan City and Surigao del Norte.

As of Thursday, over 400 participants have joined the program’s activities in Butuan City and Siargao Island.

In a statement Thursday, DSWD-13 said the simultaneous launch events were held at Cabuntog Hall in General Luna, Siargao Island, and at Ampayon Central Elementary School and Taguibo Elementary School in Butuan City. A total of 135 participants attended the kick-off rites in Butuan City, while 136 joined in General Luna.

A key component of the program is the administration of profiling tools and consent forms by the TBTP Regional Program Management Office (RPMO). This ensures the systematic collection of beneficiary data and secures parents’ formal commitment to the program, DSWD-13 said.

On Wednesday, the second day of the program, 129 participants from Butuan City and 202 from Dapa town in Siargao Island attended community assemblies.

“The TBTP RPMO will continue conducting community assemblies throughout the week in Butuan City, General Luna, and Dapa, Siargao Island, to expand its reach and impact,” DSWD-13 said. (PNA)
