The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided 6,482 family food packs (FFPs) to families in Northern Samar displaced by widespread flooding due to Tropical Storm Enteng.

Jonalyndie Chua, DSWD Eastern Visayas regional information officer, said on Tuesday they are fast-tracking the delivery to local government units badly affected by the flooding caused by the recent weather disturbance.

FFPs have been distributed to affected families in the towns of Allen, Victoria, and Lavezares in Northern Samar province.

Each FFP, costing PHP500, contains six kilograms of rice, four cans of corned beef, two cans of tuna flakes, two cans of sardines, five sachets of coffee, and five sachets of energy drink.

Some PHP4.67 million has been spent by the department for food packs and non-food items.

“The distribution is the role of local government units already. For releases from DSWD to local governments, it’s a concerted effort of the whole government approach,” Chua said in a phone interview.

As of Sept. 3, there are relief items worth PHP131.20 million available for storm victims in Eastern Visayas.

“There is an ongoing coordination and monitor of the quick response team of the DSWD to ensure that all affected families get assistance if needed,” Chua added.

The calamity has displaced 27,137 families living in 200 villages of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran provinces. (PNA)
