Who says courses are only about Math, Science, English, History, and other academic subjects that entail memorization, reading, and problem solving with looming deadlines and exhausting exams?

You guys! (Inserts Taylor Swift’s voice) This article is about some of the coolest courses that everyone can only imagine, but actually exist!

1. The Evolution of Taylor Swift – New York University

Do you want to show the world how perplexingly intelligent you are as a Swiftie? Tired of playing fill-in-the-blanks games based on Taylor Swift’s lyrics? Do you want to take it to the next level of coolness? I’m sure Swifties could pass and get hired as professors at New York University’s Clive Davis Institute, which is offering a Taylor class in the spring 2022 semester. The class discusses Taylor Swift’s massive and successful career as a musician/songwriter from a variety of perspectives, including her evolution as a creative music entrepreneur, her transition from country to pop, how her experiences as a child and adolescent influenced her success in music, and the political race in contemporary popular music. Taylor was invited to speak to the class, but the request is still pending.

2. K-Pop Scribner Seminar – Skidmore College

Every BLACKPINK fan probably wonders how the four members of this girl group are so good at choreography and why they always look so good. Skidmore College’s K-Pop approach to the traditional Scribner Seminar elevates the First Year Experience to a new level. What do you think, K-Pop fans? Joowon Park, an anthropology professor, teaches the class, which uses the K-Pop phenomenon to guide students’ exploration of their ideas and assumptions about the world of K-Pop. I’m sure every K-Pop fan will gladly sign up for this!

3. Beyoncé 101 – Rutgers University

Who runs the world? Probably Beyonce, as a Beyonce class was offered by Rutgers University’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies in 2014. The Feminist Perspectives (“Politicizing Beyonce”) project aims to pair the pop star’s songs and music videos with writing from black feminist movement pioneers.

4. Queen Bees, Wannabes, and Mean Girls – Colorado College

So, do you agree? Do you really think you’re pretty? Oh no, that’s Regina George talking!

If you’re good enough to take a Mean Girls course at Colorado College, why not give this a shot and go for it? By using Mean Girls as a case study, you might understand why Regina George exists and how far they’ll go to keep their queen bee status. Why not sign up and see for yourself? By the end of the course, you might actually agree with Regina!

5. Harry Potter: Literary Tradition and Popular Culture – Otis College of Art and Design

I’m sure Potterheads who will enroll themselves in this class will never sleep in class as the Otis College of Art and Design tackles and analyzes the book series, digging into how and why Harry Potter has made reading so magical. I bet every Potterhead will have a competitive yet exciting experience while taking this course!

6. Game of Thrones – University of Virginia

Do you consider binge-watching Game of Thrones to be normal? Do you want to take your Game of Thrones fandom to the next level? You can now make your obsession a reality by enrolling in a four-week seminar at the University of Virginia that covers both the original book series and the hit HBO show!

7. Pizza Hut Apprenticeship – Manchester Metropolitan University

Do you ever wonder how a pizza company’s food production and financial analysis happen every time you eat a pizza? If that’s the case, finish your pizza first, then apply for the Pizza Hut Apprenticeship at Manchester Metropolitan University! As part of a collaboration with Pizza Hut, some students will study the course at the university while others will work at Pizza Hut locations. Isn’t this exciting? Over the course of five years, the program will be open to 1,500 students. So, when people ask why you put “started school at Pizza Hut” on Facebook, you can tell them it’s true!

8. Wasting Time On The Internet – University Of Pennsylvania

Who says that wasting time on the internet is a bad thing? The University of Pennsylvania offered a class called “Wasting Time on the Internet,” which surprisingly fulfilled some English major requirements! You will no longer be concerned when your mother complains that you are always glued to your screen, because the course requires you to stare at the screen for three hours while only interacting through chat rooms, bots, social media, and other means. Distraction, multitasking, and aimless drifting are required for the thrill! I’m confident we’ll all get straight A’s!

9. Dealing Tactfully with Difficult People – University of California Los Angeles

Tired of meeting gaslighters in your neighborhood? Take this course at the University of California, Los Angeles to get rid of those gaslighters! According to the course enrollment page, the course delves into specific strategies for dealing with complaining, thoughtlessness, manipulation, attention-seeking, excessive talking, withdrawal, rule-breaking, excuses, and feigned helplessness. The course is open for enrollment in the spring of 2022.

10. The Art Of Selfies – City Lit, London

Perhaps you have a talent for selfies that is just waiting to be discovered after taking The Art of Self Portraiture at City Lit College! The class will go over how to take professional-looking self-portraits in great detail. Furthermore, you must have some photography experience in order to take it. You’ve convinced them to take your selfies in class every day. Isn’t that cool?

So, are you still surprised that such programs exist? I’m sure you’d like to go to some.
