A grade five student from Ifugao inspired the netizens as he chose to return a pouch of money containing more than PHP 100,000.
Denard B. Uy-uyon, an 11-year-old student of Panubtuban Elementary School, Asipulo District in Ifugao, received praises from the netizens as he immediately turned over a pouch containing cash in the amount of P102,450 to his teachers when he found it.
Uy-uyon shared that he found the pouch containing the money at a jeepney owned by their neighbors.
Myrna Nalliw, an assistant administrative officer at one of Ifugao’s renewable energy corporations and the owner of the pouch, was overjoyed when the money she had taken out of the bank was returned in full. It was claimed that the money belonged to the company.
DepEd Tayo Youth Formation Division Office of Ifugao proudly shared the favorable act by Uy-uyon on their Facebook account Saturday, July 17, 2021.
“Indeed, this young boy heard well and internalized the teachings of his parents, relatives, teachers, and other mentors from other agencies,” the Division officials said.
“He is now a model to other children,” they added.
The netizens were also moved by this initiative done by Uy-uyon.
Denard was labeled a real example of an Igorot that embodies the “Inayan Culture,” which is defined as the “fear of the supreme being” that keeps them from doing bad things.
