The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Friday broke ground its new Davao branch along McArthur Highway in Matina.
It is expected to open to the public by 2026.
GSIS Chairperson Rodolfo del Rosario led the ceremony, joined by GSIS officer-in-charge Juliet Bautista, Acting Senior Vice President for VisMin Operations Isagani del Rosario, and officials from the Davao, Kidapawan, and Tagum branches.
“This project represents our promise to bring government service closer to the people. We are building not just a new office but a stronger connection with our members in Mindanao,” Chairperson del Rosario said in his remarks.
The new two-story structure will be built on the same site where the old GSIS office stood before it was closed in 2019 due to structural concerns caused by frequent earthquakes in the area. It is designed to be disaster-resilient, accessible, and member-focused.
Bautista said the project is part of GSIS’s long-term strategy to modernize facilities and improve member experience nationwide.
“This groundbreaking reflects our commitment to strengthen our presence across the country and deliver quality service in facilities that meet the needs of our members,” Bautista said.
The Davao branch, established in 1957, is one of GSIS’s oldest offices.
From serving just 8,000 members with a 10-person team, it now caters to more than 47,000 active members and 16,000 pensioners in Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and nearby provinces. (PNA)
