The municipal government of Currimao is targeting all 1,800 farmers and fisherfolk in the municipality for coverage under life and agricultural insurance to protect local communities whose livelihoods are highly exposed to natural and economic risks.

Municipal agriculturist Erickson Biag on Friday said the initiative, in partnership with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, aims to ensure that farmers and fisherfolk have financial protection against unforeseen circumstances, including accidents, death, natural calamities, crop losses and other livelihood-related risks.

“Like last year, the local government unit of Currimao has allocated PHP200,000 for this purpose,” he said. The provision of free insurance coverage is part of the municipality’s efforts to strengthen the social safety net for agricultural and fishing communities.

Farmers and fisherfolk often face income disruptions caused by typhoons, droughts, floods, pests and other hazards, making insurance an important tool for protecting household finances.

Under the initiative, eligible beneficiaries will receive assistance in securing both life insurance and agricultural insurance, giving them greater security while they continue to produce food and support the local economy.

Registration is ongoing and applicants were advised to register at the Municipal Agriculture Office.

The program underscores Currimao’s commitment to inclusive social protection, livelihood security, and resilient farming and fishing communities, helping beneficiaries recover more quickly when unexpected events affect their lives and sources of income.

“Thank you to the municipal government of Currimao for the love of farmers and fisherfolk. This means a lot to us for our safety and protection,” said Rainy Valente, a farmer from Comcomloong village. (PNA)
