The Sangguniang Panlungsod has adopted a resolution acknowledging the impact of More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) on Iloilo City’s economic development, emphasizing the improvements brought by its modernization efforts in the power distribution sector.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Romel Duron, highlighted how the firm’s initiatives over the past five years have enhanced electricity quality, contributing to the city’s growth.

A study by the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) reported that MORE Power’s services helped add an average of PHP4.9 billion annually to the local economy.

It also credited the utility for creating an estimated 2,200 jobs each year, generating PHP1.75 billion in additional household income from 2020 to 2022.

Duron also cited findings from the Institute of Contemporary Economics, which noted that reliable and affordable electricity has attracted businesses and promoted economic innovation in the city.

The resolution further acknowledged the firm’s involvement in community programs, such as environmental cleanup efforts, mangrove planting, and cultural preservation projects like underground cabling and lighting of historical sites.

MORE Power President Roel Castro, recognized for steering these initiatives, was previously declared an Adopted Son of Iloilo City by Mayor Jerry Treñas in December 2024. (PNA)
