The Task Force Davao (TFD) has created an infomercial to heighten young people’s awareness of the security and safety situation in the city.

Along with Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, the TFD launched the infomercial Wednesday afternoon at the Davao City National High School, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).

In an interview, TFD commander Col. Darren Comia said the infomercial is part of the security sector’s effort to shift the focus of its “culture of security” campaign towards grade school and high school students to encourage them to take a more empowered role in maintaining peace and order.

“We would like to ask the teachers if they can play the infomercial during their classes. We want to instill a deep awareness of safety in the generations to come,” Comia said.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte said embedding a culture of security among young people would help produce a proactive citizenry in the future.

He also recounted the terroristic incidents in the city, which include the bombing of Davao’s old airport, the Sasa Port, San Pedro Church, and Roxas Night Market.

“Davao City is situated in areas where there is an imminent threat outside our borders. Terrorism is so unfair because innocent people were affected. That’s why if you want to embed culture in the society, start in our youth,” Duterte said. “This is to constantly remind them that we cannot keep ourselves intact if there is a threat in our surroundings. Our goal is: better to be safe than sorry and we can save lives.”

He said the infomercial would help the youth protect their neighborhoods against crimes and terroristic acts.

“Let us be vigilant and live peacefully in our city. Let us not allow another (terroristic) incident to happen here,” Duterte added.

Meanwhile, DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario said elementary and high schools are mandated to “play the new four-minute infomercial during school ceremonies, programs, sports events, and other activities.”

“Culture of Security” is a people-centered campaign that encourages Dabawenyos to adopt vigilance in their everyday life.

The initiative calls on residents to practice the four acts of the culture of security – volunteer, report, remind, and participate. (PNA)
