The simultaneous conduct of the daylong Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) in Davao Region last week raked in sales of more than PHP500,000, the regional Department of Agriculture (DA-11) said Monday.

In a report, the DA-11 said Davao Oriental logged the highest sales with PHP256,675, followed by Davao del Sur (PHP101,171), Davao del Norte (PHP86,338), Davao de Oro (PHP P71,514), and Davao Occidental (PHP39,743).

After the July 17 event’s success, DA-11 KNP focal person Mary Juvy Pregon said plans are underway for the holding of the initiative twice a month.

“It will be continued and we will start by August 15. The Kadiwa is a stabilizer of the prices of the agri-commodities,” she said, adding that it is noticeable that prices of agri-commodities are soaring in the markets.

The KNP aims to help strengthen Kadiwa activities, ensure the expansion of the national program, and provide consumers with fresh and affordable agri-fishery commodities.

Kadiwa centers also seek to establish an additional market for small farmers and fisherfolk to sell their products at affordable prices in areas where poor families live.

The KNP is one of the programs of the Marcos administration to address rising food prices due to global inflation.

“In Kadiwa, we are not allowing clients to buy in bulk to make sure that others can also buy,” Pregon said, as she urged local government units to implement KNP in their respective areas to help both farmers and consumers. (PNA)
