The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) announced on Thursday the inaugural strategic gathering of Mindanao’s regional and provincial micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for the first-ever Mindanao MSME Forum.

In a statement, MinDA Undersecretary Janet Lopoz said the forum, which took place on Wednesday in this city, is aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s priority agenda to accelerate MSME growth, innovation, and competitiveness.

“This seeks to address a long-standing gap in Mindanao’s development landscape: the absence of a consolidated voice to champion its MSME priorities in policy discussions and program implementation,” she said.

The initiative fully supports President Marcos’ goal of empowering MSMEs as key drivers of job creation and economic strength. Under his administration, nationwide momentum for MSME development has surged, with expanded programs for financing, digitalization, and market linkage now available.

As part of the “Building a Better Mindanao” campaign, the MSME Forum demonstrates the shared commitment of MinDA and its MSME partners to inclusive growth, strategic collaboration, and a future where local enterprises drive national progress.

Lopoz said the forum sought to formalize a shared commitment through a Joint Communiqué, paving the way for the creation of the Mindanao MSME Council.

“The council will act as a unified, action-oriented body to coordinate regional efforts, boost Mindanao’s advocacy nationally, and promote inclusive, sustainable growth,” she said. The creation of a unified MSME council is timely, as the Philippines prepares to host the 2026 ASEAN Summit.

She noted that Mindanao’s organized MSME sector will be well-positioned to leverage global attention and economic opportunities from the country’s ASEAN hosting, fostering partnerships, attracting investments, and promoting the region’s products internationally. (PNA)
