Misamis Oriental Governor Juliette Uy met with officials of the Department of Agriculture in Northern Mindanao Region (DA-10) and the South Korean Embassy in the Philippines on Thursday to discuss potential agricultural development projects for the province.

In an interview Friday, Provincial Agriculture Office head Dr. Benjamin Resma said the meeting focused on establishing partnerships where the South Korean government can contribute to improving farmers’ skills and addressing their needs.

Initial plans for the collaboration include building more processing centers, cold chain facilities, grain centers and smart greenhouses, Resma said.

This initiative is part of the Misamis Oriental provincial government’s broader strategy to update its agriculture plan, aiming for better results while maintaining existing best practices.

A top practice to be maintained is supporting farmers, including the weekly farmers’ market.

“We will continue to cater to these farmers to sell their produce [at the grounds of the provincial capitol in this city], as long as they reside in Misamis Oriental,” Resma said.

He said that a group of farmers is seeking a dialogue with Uy to express their interest in improving the agriculture sector and their need to boost productivity. (PNA)
