More closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in this city this year as part of enhanced public security measures, the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO here said Friday.

In a statement, PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay said they would install fiber optics for CCTVs in the priority areas of the city, as approved by the City Mayor’s Office.

He added that fiber optic cables are also installed along the city’s coastal area.

“These are the priority areas for us when installing cameras. So hopefully, we can implement it for 2025,” Sumagaysay said.

He noted that the expansion of CCTVs is vital for people’s safety, especially during disasters, and to ease traffic.

Around 200 CCTVs have already been put in place throughout the city.

“Davao City is growing; therefore, we must use it to improve security and ensure our safety, such as in the event of flooding or traffic,” he said. (PNA)
