Humanitarian assistance amounting to more than PHP35 million has been provided to families in the Caraga Region recently affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Tino, the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Thursday.

The government, local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations, and other concerned groups provided aid consisting of food and non-food items, the department said.

A total of 112,992 families, or 415,828 individuals, from 620 barangays across the region were affected by the typhoon.

Of the total, 39,656 families, or 134,874 individuals, were temporarily housed in 1,024 evacuation centers due to threats of flooding, rain-induced landslides, and storm surges.

“As of Nov. 6, only 87 families or 483 individuals remain in three designated evacuation centers across the region,” the agency said in its report on Thursday.

Currently, relief resources available at the DSWD 13 (Caraga Region) include some PHP2.4 million in standby funds and PHP76.4 million worth of food and non-food items.

Meanwhile, it also reported the ongoing distribution of family food packs (FFPs) in two towns in Surigao del Norte on Thursday.

A total of 1,303 FFPs were delivered simultaneously to Tubod and San Benito municipalities in Siargao Island.

The DSWD-13 said assessment and validation activities are continuing across the region in coordination with the LGUs. (PNA)
