Selected ambulant vendors from this city are recipients of the “Negosyo sa Kariton” (NegoKart) project, a partnership project of the local government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
“The NegoKart project seeks to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for vulnerable and marginalized workers in the informal sector by supporting their entrepreneurial growth through capacity-building assistance,” Velma Jane Lao, head of the Iloilo City Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion office, said during the turnover ceremony on Monday.
Lao said the 133 beneficiaries consist of ambulant vendors from the seven districts of Iloilo City.
“All beneficiaries have completed the required training in food handling, equipping them with the necessary skills to maintain safety and quality in their business operations,” she added.
The project was funded under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program at PHP30,000 per cart.
Lao said they were grateful to DOLE for funding the project and hoped to have more future beneficiaries as the initiative embodies the inclusive governance or development for all agendas of Mayor Jerry Treñas.
DOLE Iloilo head Joselito De La Banda also joined the turnover ceremony at Plaza Libertad. (PNA)
