The provincial government of Negros Oriental, through the Department of Health, is pushing to develop an emergency responder from every household on Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Thirty trainers from different local government units (LGUs) were gathered beginning Monday at a resort in Dauin town for training, which they will cascade to barangays, said Adrian Sedillo, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief.

In turn, these barangays will create clusters of households to have trained responders in times of emergency where BLS and CPR are needed, as these would definitely “save lives”, he said.

Basic response would include cases like stroke, heart attack, drowning, and choking, Sedillo said.

“This is one of the thrusts of Gov. Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria to widen his constituents’ access to health care and medical attention,” he said.

Sagarbarria requested this training after learning of the DOH’s program, he added.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will assist the DOH and the PDRRMO in the training facilitated by the DOH-7 Health Emergency Management Staff headed by Dr. Shelbay Blanco.

It is one of the activities lined up for the province’s celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month this July. (PNA)
