A PHP19.79 million worth multi-purpose building is expected to serve as an evacuation center for villages in Dagupan City during calamities.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Department of Public Works and Highways – Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza said the building project located in Barangay Bonuan Boquig will specifically serve the villages of Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig, and Bonuan Binloc.

“The project is equipped with three floors and a roof deck, with a total floor area of 1,266.6 square meters. Every floor in the building represents the detailed design and functions. The structure that serves as a command post is equipped with accommodation, areas for a health station, conference rooms for important meetings, and planning programs for emergency services,” she said.

The building, constructed from July 17, 2023 to April 4, 2024, also serves as a venue for other community events, she said.

As of 12 noon on Wednesday, Dagupan City has no reported evacuees amid the heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina. (PNA)
