The city government here is eyeing to set up more inoculation sites in the barangays (villages) to ramp up vaccine rollout against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. Emerito D. Mercado, rural health physician, said on Thursday the move to bring down the inoculation activities at the community level is to attain population protection against Covid-19 soon.

Mercado, however, said the City Health Office (CHO) will first assess and determine if the strategy will be beneficial to Fernandinos. It is likewise planning to conduct house-to-house vaccination for bedridden residents.

On Wednesday, the CHO held its first village vaccination in Barangay Sindalan.

“This move is part of our re-strategizing. Kaya natin ibinaba dito sa barangay para mapabilis at mapadali ang ating pagbabakuna. May mga nakikita din tayong pros and cons sa pagtatayo ng vaccination site sa mga barangay. Tsaka yung mga seniors mas prefer nila sa vaccination sites natin sa mga mall kasi mas komportable sila. Dito sa barangay covered court medyo mainit kaya mabilis din uminit ang mga ulo kapag nakapila (The reason we bring down it down to the barangay is to speed up the vaccination. We see some pros and cons in the setting up of vaccination sites in the barangays. The seniors prefer our vaccination sites in the malls because they feel comfortable. Here in the barangay covered court, it is a bit hot, thus the people easily get angry),” Mercado said in a statement.

Also on Thursday, the CHO started vaccinating the A5 priority group or the indigent population.

The city has five permanent vaccination sites that regularly roll out Covid-19 vaccines.

As of Aug. 25, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the city is 7,727 with 1,271 active cases.

The total number of recoveries is 6,228 with 228 deaths. (PNA)
