The Ilocos Norte government is inviting all interested micro, small and medium entrepreneurs particularly in the host municipality of Paoay to put food stalls free of charge in the newly-opened Paoay Lake waterpark complex.

“We are prioritizing small businesses from Paoay and we are giving them this opportunity to partner with us,” said Ilocos Norte tourism officer Aianree Raquel.

Currently, the food park near the inflatable island waterpark has 10 stalls but can accommodate at least 30.

Putting up stalls is right now free of charge but once the operation becomes stable, a maintenance fee may be collected to shoulder some of the expenses incurred in maintaining the cleanliness of the waterpark complex, Raquel said.

Interested applicants may register with the Buy Ilocos Norte e-commerce website of the Ilocos Norte government through its Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Office and submit requirements such as a business permit.

To give chance to the other applicants, a monthly reshuffling schedule will be implemented, he added.

The food park is open from 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. and dining is allowed but the Ilocos Norte government through its tourism office continues to remind visitors to always observe minimum health and safety protocols against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

All food park staff are also required to be fully vaccinated.

Based on the guidelines, vendors bring their own booth set-up, tent, electrical extension, lights, and at least three tables with chairs for customers who may wish to dine in.

Electric appliances that produce heat like microwave and electric stoves, however, are prohibited.

Washing of dishes is also disallowed and all utensils shall be disposable and biodegradable.

Vendors are also asked to bring garbage bags to maintain cleanliness.

Developed to attract more tourists to the lake, the waterpark, which opened last Jan. 30, features an inflatable island and a food park that features a variety of drinks and Asian dishes. (PNA)
