President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday hailed the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing’s (PAW) dedication and professionalism, highlighting its crucial role in providing air mobility that enables him to carry out official missions.
During the 58th anniversary celebration of the 250th PAW at the Philippine Air Force Multipurpose Gymnasium, Marcos credited the unit for helping the government respond swiftly to communities in need.
“You provide the readiness to respond when circumstances call for a quick and rapid response,” Marcos said. “In these missions, you do more than just provide transportation. You help the government reach our people when they need us most.”
He said his visits to disaster-hit communities were among the testaments to the Wing’s crucial role in the government’s response.
The President recalled his visit to Bacolor, Pampanga, to check on residents affected by massive flooding, as well as trips to Cebu and Sarangani to inspect areas damaged by earthquakes and deliver support to affected communities.
“When floods and communities, for example are isolated, you help bring us closer to the families that are waiting for assistance. When earthquakes damages homes and shakes people’s spirit, you carry relief and hope for them to carry on,” he said.
Marcos said the 250th PAW’s role extends beyond transporting him, noting that it also provides mobility for presidential staff, support personnel, and other government officials needed for official engagements, emergency response and other humanitarian operations.
He also lauded the unit’s capabilities to provide safe and reliable air mobility not just for him but also for the First Family, government officials and foreign dignitaries.
“You give the President and the Presidency because you do not only fly me – you fly my staff, you fly all the support staff that is necessary for me to be able to do my job properly, you give us the mobility that we need and our government,” Marcos said.
“And this is why we place such deep trust in you—not only for the safety of the President but to the safety of the First Family as well.”
Marcos recalled his personal connection with the unit, saying he had been familiar with its operations since childhood and had experience flying aboard its aircraft, including a C-47.
He said the Wing has evolved into a “state-of-the-art” unit capable of providing the mobility necessary for the President and the government to fulfill their responsibilities.
“Behind every successful takeoff and landing is a team that has planned thoroughly, trained constantly, communicated clearly, and carried out your duties with professionalism and with competence,” he said.
Marcos underscored the importance of continuous training, modernization, discipline, teamwork, and sound judgment in ensuring the success and safety of every mission.
“These allow the Wing to respond safely and effectively to increasingly complex missions, whether in support of official engagements, emergency response, or humanitarian operations,” he said.
He congratulated this year’s unit and individual awardees, saying their achievements reflected the collective strength of the 250th PAW.
He also thanked the Wing’s pilots, crew, maintenance and security personnel, civilian workforce, and their families for their continuing support.
He urged the personnel to continue upholding the trust placed in them by the nation.
“So, to our Bluebirds: the aircraft may carry the mission, but it is your discipline and your teamwork that make each operation possible and make each operation successful,” Marcos said.
The 250th PAW is the Air Force’s premier air mobility unit, providing safe, secure, efficient and dignified air transportation for the President of the Philippines, the First Family, visiting heads of state and other high-ranking dignitaries. (PNA)
