The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to go on heightened alert beginning Oct. 30 until Nov. 4 as part of nationwide security preparations for Undas (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day) commemoration on Nov. 1 and 2.

PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, on Monday gave the order to all PCG districts, stations, and sub-stations to intensify monitoring and assistance operations in all ports and waterways throughout the country.

In a statement, the PCG said the security preparations are in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for the PCG to ensure the safety and security, and comfort of the riding public.

“To intensify security measures, Coast Guard K9 units will conduct thorough vessel and baggage inspections in maritime transport facilities,” it said.

PCG rescuers and lifeguards will also be placed in strategic locations at beaches, island resorts, and other coastal tourist destinations to safeguard tourists.

The PCG will also work with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to man DOTr Malasakit Help Desks in major ports, harbors, and other public transport hubs nationwide.

“PCG medical teams will also be deployed to augment the DOTr Malasakit Help Desks, ensuring on-site medical assistance for sea travelers,” it said.

These help desks will provide passengers with immediate assistance, travel information, and emergency response services.

“The PCG continuously reminds the public to remain vigilant, follow safety protocols, and cooperate with local authorities to ensure a safe and secure travel experience during Undas 2025,” it said. (PNA)
