Filipino International Master Daniel Quizon and Mongolian FIDE Master Munkhdalai Amilal won their respective matches to share the Open division lead after five rounds of the Eastern Asia Juniors and Girls Chess Championships at the Sabah Oriental Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia on Tuesday.

Quizon downed Dasmariñas Chess Academy teammate, FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca, while Amilal prevailed over Filipino IM Michael Concio Jr. Both have 4.5 points.

Filipino National Master (NM) Jan Clifford Labog and Romualdez siblings, NM Davin Sean and Chess Master Danry Seth, also hurdled their respective opponents.

Labog conquered compatriot NM Ivan Travis Cu, while Davin Sean beat Malaysian Muhd Tirmidzi Abdul Sahim and his younger brother Danry Seth downed Bruneian Muhd. Danish Zaqwan Muhd Hadi.

Labog is in solo second place with 4.0 points, while Arca and Concio joined Indonesian IM Aditya Bagus Arfan, and Malaysians Wee Yin Lin, Muhd Faqih Aminuddin, Siva Kumar Nirish Kumar and Mohan Kavin are third with 3.5 points.

The Romualdez brothers, Cu, Indonesian CM Fabian Glen Mariano and Malaysians Jason Warren Likoh and Hiew Jing Yung are tied for fourth with 3.0 points.

In the girl’s division, Indonesian Woman Fide Master (WFM) Diajeng Theresa Singgih of Indonesia trounced Filipino Woman National Master (WNM) Ruelle Canino to grab the lead with 4.5 points.

Malaysian Woman Candidate Master Jia-Tien Chua downed Mongolian WFM Boldbaatar Altantuya to earn 4.0 points for second place.

Altantuya, and Indonesians WFM Samantha Edithso and WCM Cecilia Natalie Liuviann are third with 3.5 points followed by Canino and fellow Filipino Ma. Elayza Villa, Korean WFM Sunwoo Park, Singaporean Sreekarthika Velmurugan, Vietnamese Ha Yihan and Malaysian Darwisyah Insyirah Nureen with 3.0 points. (PNA)
