The United Kingdom’s longest-running travel magazine has again recognized the Philippines this year, with nominations as the Most Desirable Country, Most Desirable Region (Cebu), and Most Desirable Island (Palawan) for this year’s Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.

In addition to the three nominations, the Philippines can also be voted for specific categories, including Adventure, Nature and Wildlife, Culture and Heritage, Gastronomy and Sustainable Experience.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said on Friday these recognitions from respected institutions are a testament to the timeless beauty of the country and the hard work and initiatives of the public and private sector post-pandemic to elevate the ranking of the Philippines as a global destination offering a wide range of tourism offerings.

“These nominations, on top of the three million foreign arrivals which we have recently reached, are affirmations that the world welcomes our reintroduction of the Philippines on the strength of its many attributes, highlighting a multitude of reasons to love the Philippines,” she said in a news release.

She added that the recognitions are also a reflection of the relentless efforts made to open up the Philippines again to tourism and travel “with a stronger foundation focused on infrastructure, connectivity, digitalization and an enhanced overall tourism experience.”

Now in its 22nd year, Wanderlust Travel continues to accord recognition in several categories in the tourism industry. The judging panel is composed of independent experts, travelers, and Wanderlust readers.

The awarding will be held in November at the iconic British Museum.

Last year, the country’s award-winning destination Palawan bagged the Gold Award for the Most Desirable Island for the Rest of the World category under the same nomination.
