The Philippine team dominated the 11th World Mathematics Invitation (WMI) in South Korea, as Filipino student participants clenched a total of 143 awards.

With the return of the face-to-face setup for the WMI on July 14 to 18, Filipino students ranging from Grades 1 to 12 and coming from different schools showed their talent in solving math problems.

According to the Asian MathSci League (AMSLI), the organization that led the students during the competition, the Philippine team gathered a total of 143 awards.

Along with these awards is the recognition received by Grade 6 student Mateo Espocia, who received the “Star of the World Awardee” after besting his peers in the country with his score.

The other awards received were two Legend Awardees, four Diamond Awardees, 14 Gold Awardees, 32 Silver Awardees, 48 Bronze Awardees, and 41 Merit Awardees in the written competitions held at Yonsei University, and one Silver Award in WMI’s special mini-competition.

“This triumph is a testament to the unwavering dedication and brilliance of our Pinoy students. However, this victory is not just a personal achievement for our students as it also symbolizes the resilience and determination of our nation. Despite the hurdles we faced, we refused to let adversity dim our spirits,” AMSLI president Rechilda Villame said.

The students who participated in the said competition came from different schools nationwide, such as in Batangas, Cavite, Makati, and Iloilo.
