The Department of Agriculture launched the country’s first Mobile Soil Laboratory in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental, officials announced Monday (Nov. 17, 2025).

The PHP42-million facility, housed in a 10-wheeler truck, brings advanced soil diagnostics directly to farmers’ fields.

Ma. Geneva Depra, chief of the DA-11 Soils Laboratory, said the mobile lab eliminates long travel and waiting times for soil analysis.

“Using the MSL’s data-driven advice, farmers can drastically reduce unnecessary fertilizer inputs,” Depra explained.

The laboratory tests soil chemistry, physical structure, microbiology and water quality. It provides tailored recommendations on fertilizer type, quantity and timing through soil health reports and soil cards.

Four DA experts are conducting sampling, testing and capacity-building in Don Marcelino. The mobile lab will proceed to Malita, Davao Occidental next week. (PNA)
