Not just one but over five medals in total were bagged by the Philippine team as the World Combat Games in Riyadh recently ended, making a name not only for themselves but also for the country.

Summing up the competition, the Philippines were able to clinch one gold and three silver medals during the 2023 World Combat Games held in Riyadh with the participation of the Muaythai Philippine team.

Athletes, namely Rhichein Yosorez, Alyssa Mallari, Phillip Delarmino, Ariel Lampacan, Islay Bomogao, and Rudzma Abubakar, raised the flags of the Philippines during their matches for their respective divisions.

For the Mixed Mai Muay Event Category, Yosorez and Mallari won the gold medal, while Delarmino and Lampacan got the silver medal. For the women’s Wai Kru event category, Bomogao won the silver medal, while for the women’s 48-kilogram elite female combat, Abubakar also got the silver medal.

“Our athletes showcased their immense talent, dedication, and resilience, making our nation proud. Let’s celebrate their remarkable accomplishments and look forward to more victories in the future,” the Philippine Muaythai team said on their Facebook post.

Furthermore, the duo of Juvenile Crisostomo and Justine Macario also won the bronze medal after claiming third place during the finals with a score of 8.820.

Bringing home these medals has created a milestone for the Philippine Muaythai and Taekwondo teams, making more achievements for Filipinos in the said sports that are rare to be trained in the country.
