Good news for Filipino travelers dreaming of cherry blossoms, anime pilgrimages, or just indulging in authentic ramen—Japan is making the visa application process much easier. Starting April 7, 2025, five new Japan Visa Application Centers (JVAC) will officially open across the country, making it more convenient for Filipinos to submit their applications.

In recent years, more Filipinos have been travelling to Japan than ever before. In 2024 alone, a record-breaking 818,700 Filipinos visited Japan, marking a 31.6% increase from the previous year.

With this surge in applications, the Japanese Embassy decided to move away from the traditional travel agency system and instead establish dedicated visa centers. This shift aims to make the process more efficient, faster, and hassle-free for everyone.

The new JVACs are strategically placed in five key cities to ensure accessibility for applicants from different regions: Parañaque City, Makati City, Quezon City, Cebu City, and Davao City.

However, it is important to note that if you have already applied through an accredited agency before April 6, you will still collect your visa-validated passport from them. But moving forward, starting April 7, everything will be handled by the official visa centers.

The centers will operate from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Visa application submissions will be accepted from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Parañaque, Makati, and Quezon City, while Cebu and Davao offices are available to receive applications from 7:00 AM to 12:00 NN. Processed passports with a visa will be available until 4:00 PM.

The new system is expected to make the visa process more organized and efficient. The Japanese Embassy has partnered with VFS Service Philippines, Inc., a company that specializes in processing visa applications, ensuring a “smoother experience”, with less hassle and fewer delays.

Beyond convenience, this move highlights the growing relationship between Japan and the Philippines; it’s become an opportunity to welcome more tourists, exchange students, and business travelers alike.

If you’re planning to visit Japan soon, mark April 7 on your calendar and be sure to check which visa center is nearest you. If you’re reading this, then it’s a sign for you to prepare your documents and start planning your dream trip to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, or wherever your Japan adventure takes you.
