Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, on Tuesday has ordered the Quezon City Police District to explain why some of their personnel are not wearing face shields while enforcing quarantine protocols.

This came after a viral video that showed members of the city’s Police Station 16 trying to issue ordinance violation receipts to citizens who are not wearing face shields while they themselves are not also wearing one.

“How will civilians follow the rules and regulations or ordinances if our law enforcers do not?” Eleazar said in a statement.

The policemen also refused to acknowledge the violators’ complaints that they were also violating the city ordinance.

He also reminded police officers to continue providing face masks and even face shields to persons who have none.

Eleazar urged the public to report through the different E-Sumbong platforms PNP personnel who are not observing the minimum public health safety protocols.

Curfew hours

Meanwhile, he assured that the strict enforcement of curfew hours will continue despite the relaxation of the policy in Metro Manila.

“Shortening curfew hours will allow more people to visit malls, restaurants, and other establishments, a move that would help our economic recovery from the effects of the pandemic,” he added.

He also instructed the National Capital Region Police Office to closely coordinate enforcement with barangay officials who are also tapped to strictly implement the curfew.

Curfew hours in Metro Manila are from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. starting Tuesday.

Eleazar, meanwhile, appealed to the public to abide by the curfew to avoid arrest.

“We have always strictly implemented curfew and we will not hesitate to enforce our local ordinances and arrest curfew violators,” he said. (PNA)
