Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said the city would consult health professionals on the suggested easing of age restrictions in areas under the general community quarantine (GCQ).

Belmonte said Metro Manila mayors will tackle the issue in their next meeting, adding that they have yet to meet with the economic sector of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) who will present their proposal to local government units (LGUs) in the region.

“In the meantime, we are independently consulting with health professionals, especially pediatricians, as to their recommendation regarding the matter,” Belmonte said in a text message to the Philippine News Agency on Friday.

She said Metro Manila mayors will discuss the issue and vote on it to come up with a unified decision.

On Friday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced that people aged 10 to 65 years old in areas under the modified general community quarantine will be allowed to go outside of their homes beginning February 1.

However, Roque said they are encouraging LGUs in areas under GCQ to adopt the same.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said they recommended the measure to help re-invigorate economic activities in the country amid the coronavirus disease pandemic. (PNA)
