Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. has called for an urgent review of the Republic Act 6541, or National Building Code of the Philippines after houses and government structures were damaged by the series of quakes that rocked Mindanao.

Revilla visited the quake victims here after meeting with Mayor Joseph Evangelista on Tuesday.

“I will push for a review of the building code to ensure lives and properties are safe in times of calamities like earthquake and typhoon,” he told reporters following his meeting with the mayor.

Revilla said the construction industry and the product market in the country are now flooded with sub-standard and possibly “fake” construction materials like cement, hollow blocks, iron bars, among others.

One of those partially destroyed by the tremors was a Department of Public Works and Highways district engineering office in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

After receiving updates from the mayor, Revilla visited quake victims in some evacuation sites and distributed food packs. (PNA)
