The Tandag City government in Surigao del Sur has activated its peace and order and disaster risk reduction management councils to ensure a safe and secure observance of Holy Week.

Mayor Roxanne Pimentel issued Executive Order No. 14-2024 on Monday afternoon, outlining comprehensive safety guidelines for the Lenten season.

“These measures underscore the city government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of all residents and visitors during this significant religious observance,” Pimentel said in the order.

The order mandates the strategic deployment of law enforcers, traffic personnel, village watchers, and village peacekeeping action teams in key public areas — transportation terminals, public markets, churches, and tourist destinations.

The Ecological Solid Waste Management Office is tasked with mobilizing its personnel for efficient pre- and post-event cleanup operations in all public spaces, maintaining cleanliness throughout the Holy Week activities.

There will also be “libreng sakay” (free ride), specifically for senior citizens, the pregnant, children, and other individuals needing extra assistance.

The free transportation service will operate on a designated schedule along the route connecting the Old Cathedral in Barangay Bongtud and the New Cathedral in Barangay Rosario: Holy Thursday (5 to 5:30 p.m., 7 to 7:30 p.m.), Good Friday (11 to 11:30 a.m. 6:30 to 7 p.m.), Black Saturday (5 to 5:30 p.m., 8:30 to 9 p.m.), and Easter Sunday (3 to 3:30 a.m., 6 to 6:30 a.m.).
