The city government has distributed over 21,000 school bags filled with supplies to elementary learners from public schools across 70 barangays.

Mayor Hisham Ismail said the school supplies were delivered and distributed to students from 44 public schools.

“This program will be conducted annually with the support of the 17th Sangguniang Panlungsod. The initiative aims to provide our learners with free and usable school materials. Some students currently use plastic envelopes as their bags,” he said.

Inside the bags are six notebooks, a pencil eraser, and a pencil case.

A food truck will also visit three barangays each day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, he added.

“This will help meet their nutritional needs. While we do not currently offer free meals in schools, each barangay is mandated to implement a 120-day feeding program, funded by 60 days from the barangay budget and 60 days from the local government unit,” he said. (PNA)
